Implementation of Digital Filter in FPGA

Implementation of Digital Filter in FPGA

Most of the hardware design are done with latest technology like FPGA in order to speed tasking and compact design. In this series, most of the filter can be desinged using this technology in a single chip.
Implementing hardware design in Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) is a formidable task. There is more than one way to implement the digital FIR filter. Based on the design specification, careful choice of implementation method and tools can save a lot of time and work. MatLab is an excellent tool to design filters. There are toolboxes available to generate VHDL descriptions of the filters which reduce dramatically the time required to generate a solution. Time can be spent evaluating different implementation alternatives. Proper choice of the computation algorithms can help the FPGA architecture to make it efficient in terms of speed or area.

Design a Line Tracking Robot

Design a Line Tracking Robot
I have been discussing Robotics for past one week. In this series i would like to share a simple design of a Line tracking robot which can cost only less amount with a simple design procedure. In this motor, two dc motor or stepper motor can be used for the wheels. With this a mini robot can be designed. A while line in a dark road or a dark line in a white road can be drawn.
With this arrangement the direction and speed of the robot can be controlled. Suppose, the sensor in robot detects a dark line, it can slowdown the speed and change its direction or stop. If it goes in the right track in the road, it will be steering in the same direction.
In this way we can control the robot to make a correct ride on the road. The control circuit can be designed with IC 555 timer, Transistor or FET switches, Operation amplifiers and Light reflecting sensors. If you do this simple design, this enthusiasm will lead to a more sophisticated design of a robot of real time. Try it and give your valuable comments

Amazing Autonomous Helicopter

Amazing Autonomous Helicopter
Recently i have visited an exhibition on mini Helicopter and Planes which are remotely controlled. It was really amazing to see such mini helicopter and plane air show. When i was a graduate student, i used to design planes but due to heavy weight of design i could not make it fly. During this real show i touched the helicopter, it was really so light in weight, they have used chips with remote controls and light weight motors. It has been a dream to me to design such a planes and helicopter.
It is also amazing to see and admire those who have designed autonomous helicopter in Standford university. Such amazing airshow is really encouraging me give me a boost to do such a projects. All the credits go to the students who have done such a art of autonomous flightMore photos Source

Integrated chip celebrating 50th year

Integrated chip celebrating 50th year

Almost all the technology e.g. electronics gadgets and equipments is using Integrated circuits chips. Its revolution in the technology era is tremendous and very fast. Now the time has come for celebrations, yes, Microchip invented 50 years back; its growth has been in terms the number of transistor integrated into a single chip. The first working chip is invented by Jack Kilby, Texas Instruments on Sept. 12th 1958. It consists of one transistor and other components are glued to the side of piece of glass. His invention has been revolutionizing the electronics world. The modern computer and the internet technology would not be realized without his first rough device.

According to Moore’s law the density of the transistor integrated into a single chip double in every 18 months. This growth of the Microchip can be depicted as

Can we imagine and live a world without this Microchip technology.

Hadron Collider begins its journey to unveil the mysteries behind unvierse

Hadron Collider begins its journey
I would like to share the news of Hadron Collider and its milestone in the history of Mankind.
It is going to answer for the questions like how was the universe created?, how is a particle acquire mass. There are so many theory in answering these questions. Still there is no confirmation in correct answer.
What is Hadron Collider
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator complex, intended to collide opposing beams of protons (one type of hadron) charged with high energy. Its main purpose is to explore the validity and limitations of the Standard Model, the current theoretical picture for particle physics. It is theorized that the collider will confirm the existence of the Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and missing links in the Standard Model, and could explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass. Source1
The $9 billion LHC project, which sits astride the Franco-Swiss border, operates a tunnel buried 50 meters to 150 meters below the ground. The tunnel, or tube, is designed to facilitate and control a head-on collision between two beams of the same kind of particles -- either protons or ions. Traveling through a vacuum comparable to outer space, the beams are guided around the tube by more than 1,000 superconducting magnets.

Milestone in the history of mankind LHC begins testing
On Wednesday morning, just outside of Geneva, scientists shot a particle beam fully around a 17-mile loop in the world's most powerful particle accelerator -- the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Twenty years after development of the collider began, a particle beam made the full journey around the accelerator for the first time. It's a forebear to the time when scientists will accelerate two particle beams toward each other at 99.9% of the speed of light.
Rumors about LHC
While scientists are using the collider to find an answer to how the universe was created, there have been increasing rumors circulating around the Internet that the experiments will destroy the Earth and possibly the entire galaxy. People have been fearful that when the particles collide at high energy, they will create a black hole that will suck everything and everyone into it.

Solar system application

Solar system application
Another renewable energy source is solar power. In order to meet the energy demand, solar power can be used which is available in plenty.
Solar is a clean, efficient, and sustainable form of energy. The worldwide demand for solar photovoltaic energy is greater than supply. When the cost of supplying electricity to remote locations is expensive, solar energy becomes a cost-effective alternative. In addition, the use of a string of Photo Voltaic modules allows maximum power point voltages large enough to avoid boosting voltages in the conversion stage.

A Transformer less solar power system :
This project proposes a new transformer less, single-phase Photo Voltaic inverter with DC – DC Boost chopper circuit. A new high-efficiency topology that generates no varying common-mode voltage and requires the same low-input voltage as the bipolar PWM full bridge, to increase the inverter output voltage level. The inverter is simple, it requires only four insulated gate bipolar transistors OR MOSFETs and these have a good trade-off between efficiency, complexity and price.
In low frequency applications, the line transformer in the distribution side is large in size, heavy and expensive. Technological evolution has made possible, the implementation of both ground-fault detection systems and solutions to avoid injecting dc current into the grid. Then the transformer can be eliminated without distorting system characteristics related to personal safety and grid integration. Also Issues such as reliability, high efficiency, small size and weight, and low price are of great importance to the conversion stage of the Photo Voltaic system.
But here in conversion stage Boost dc–dc converter is used. So the serious problem of power fluctuation can be avoided, which causes a voltage ripple in the Photo Voltaic side at double the line frequency.

Basics of Fuel cell and applications

Basics of Fuel cell and applications
Now a days alternate power sources are required to meet the power demand in all sectors of the technology trends. Batteries are commonly used as backup for power demand. The fuel cell can replace this conventional power source which is not always available in plenty.

Fuel cell is a electrochemical conversion device which can produce electricity from a fuel (act as anode) and an oxidant (cathode) in presence of an electrolyte. The fuel cell electrodes are catalytic and more stable compared with batteries.
There are varieties of fuel cells are available e.g. hydrogen fuel cells(hydrogen as fuel and oxygen from air as oxidant), hydrocarbons, alcohols (as fuels) and air, chlorine dioxide as oxidant.
Fuels cells are more efficient as compared with non conventional energy sources like solar, wind energy, etc.
Fuel cells are almost used in all applications like Type 212 submarine with fuel cell propulsion of the German Navy in dock, The world's first certified Fuel Cell Boat HYDRA, in Leipzig,Germany, Toyota FCHV PEM FC fuel cell vehicle, A hydrogen fuel cell public bus accelerating at traffic lights in Perth, Western Australia.
